Coming from San Francisco, Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound is here to bring you soul changing music that will pull you out of the past and push you into the future. With imaginary instrumentals and the roots of psychedelic rock, this band will set you free.

Charlie Saufley (guitar, bass and vocals) started his life of music at a young age. His older siblings gave hm their records and be became an "obsessed nut" for music, watching the records spin for hours. He and his sister Camilla  (keyboards, bass, flute and vocals) shared this obsession for music and grew from one another learning instruments and sounds. Charlie met Michael (drums) 10 years ago while DJing at a nightclub in Frisco. They bonded through a band of mutual inspiration, My Bloody Valentine and then quickly together created "funky soul stuff" and dance party fun. They were mixing freaked out funk with Italian movie records, collaborating outside of the box together, all as a fun project. When Charlie met Jeff (guitar and bass), he at first found him to be too surly and a little off. But music has its ways of creating bonds and weird love. Once the two shared their love of experimental Japanese records, their friendship grew, all together creating Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound. The band will be touring this fall with Sleepy Sun, another band of psych friends in the community of San Francisco and proud supporters of one another. This will be their first Canadian show, which is why both bands are so excited to share the experience together, and to see what is going on in our neck of the woods.

What is the music scene in San Francisco like? Is it competitive?
Bands in San Francisco are doing a lot of contemporary psychedelic. It's not competitive. We all hang out, jam together and psych each other out.  It's much more of a supportive community in San Francisco than in LA. It's not a big city of the industry. I'm thankful we started in our city, we wouldn't be anywhere without our community.

Camilla is the only female in your band. How does she keep sane?
She digs the dudes. She keeps the dudes from being "dudely" and acting up. Camilla's presence is always comforting to have around; she holds the peace in our band with her large amount of patience. It's always comforting to have a woman around. For this tour Sleepy Sun will be with us. They also have a chick in their band. So they can have their female bonding time. She brings style, having her play the flute; we get to spread out texture in our music. The flute makes the show it changes the pace.

Ekronoplan's CD cover art is creatively intense. What is the story behind it?
Andy, a friend of the band is a comic book artist. We asked him to create something more unhinged. We wanted some psychedelic art to match the music inside of the CD. It is based on an awfully amazingly awful movie made in the 70's, Zardoz. With a bunch of floating heads on our cover from the movie, its surreal and weird, we are influenced by imagery. It reflects our lyrics, which are about strange weird epileptic scenarios. We take Sci-Fi visions of the world gone wrong and how they come to the other side okay, which is exactly how to explain the cover art on Ekronoplan.

Having so much experience with music, this band shows versatility. Throughout their music, lyrics, minds and art their creativity is beyond description. With every song they take you to a different imaginary world; making you feel relaxed and free, with your soul being completely released. They create a land of psychedelic rock with a bright future that has yet to unfold. Coming from a community with strong support, exposure and talent they show great appreciation; a community that completely reflects Hamilton. They will bring their San Francisco style on September 23 at the Casbah. Be sure to check them out!
