Hamilton Place's The Studio is set to host a knock out double feature later this month with Irish Canadian singer Emm Gryner and Toronto singer-songwriter Royal Wood.

While both signed on Gryner's self made record label, Dead Daisy Records, the two artists have two very different styles of music which is sure to please the crowd.

Gryner is fresh off her new album release earlier this year called Goddess. The record only took about four months to put together and release. Gryner calls Goddess her more personal album.

"I think if I produce the album myself, it always comes out a little more personal. Let's face it, there is not someone pressing a spacebar and telling me to sing. When you are totally alone, it is a lot more intimate.  The performance (on this album) is the closest someone is going to get to how I was feeling when I made it." said Gryner.

Gryner is not only a singer, who runs her own label but also has her hands into producing and songwriting.  However, writing is one of the biggest passions she has.

"There is so much possibility in the process. You never know how many people actually hear an album and production can be flavored by different trends. But when you are writing it is all about what you feel so that is why it is my favourite."

Royal Wood on the other hand seems to be on the other end of the spectrum. His passion exists through playing multiple instruments.

"I play guitar, piano, harmonica, banjo, mandolin, bass, drums trumpet, clarinet, all that kind of stuff," says Wood.

However, Wood does like having creative control when he steps into the studio.

"I have a very clear vision when I go into the studio, when I am making a record.  I think that is why I always end up producing the album as well."

Wood decided to take on so many different instruments to get a better understanding from a player's mind.

"If you can understand where they are coming from your direction as a producer is that much better. If you do not play that instrument, you do not understand what is trying to being accomplished."

Royal Wood's new EP Lost and Found, has a very deep meaning with Wood drawing on a lot of his own experiences.

"Everything that I write now is a diary page.  I do not want to seem like a 16 year-old high school student but when I was younger and I was writing it was really covered up in metaphors and was poetic enough. Now I am at such a comfortable and secure place with myself and my music. If anyone who knew me were to listen to this album they could pinpoint everything," said Wood.

For a promising night of good, diverse music, the Emm Gryner and Royal Wood show is definitely not to be missed at the end of the month.
