Girl Power All the Way (The Barettas & Rackula)
Who: The Barettas and Rackula
What: article

Girl power is making a coming back (and I don't mean The Spice Girls) with local girl group's The Baretta's and Rackula. Both girl group's are bringing a unique and edgy sound to the Hamilton music scene while battling it out in a sea of competing boy bands, but mainly they get to encourage future aspiring girl bands; "We get to inspire women who might not think they can pursue their dreams. We get to make a tangible difference in the world by changing how people view women in music and like it or not, when you say "all girl" people notice and that's to our advantage." adds Patty from Rackula.
These two group's are showing boy band's how music should and can be played and proving themselves around Ontario as true musicians. "We like to promote the fact that women are just as capable of doing a great job as men are. We can carry our gear. We can hold our own at shows, and we help other bands." says Molly from Rackula.
Both groups are providing different sounds with very dynamic twists. You have The Baretta's integrating a unique combo of jazz, cabaret and rock and Rackula rocking out with a hard-hitting metal sound that will keep your heart pounding and your feet stomping.
What you can expect from these girls are their abilities to give quality music and to keep the audience enthused; The Baretta's: Carly (drums) and Kate (bass) and Katie (vocals) are a deadly trio that are focusing on producing authentic and quality music that mirrors that 70's cool cat image while introducing their own neat spin on it, "All three of us come from different musical backgrounds so we don't necessarily have a specific genre. We try to make every song a little different, it helps with society's A.D.D problems," says Katie from The Baretta's.
Rackula's Lisa (Bass), Patty (Drums/vocals), Molly (Guitar), and Alyssa (Guitar) are getting their hands dirty with dark and eccentric riffs that hit harder then dad's belt on your rear; these girls are not just any girls, they are true rockers. "We have many different influences. We love punk rock. We love to rock" adds Molly. These girls are ready to give it all they have just for their fans pleasure; they can surely rock harder than most guy bands I know.
So when I asked The Baretta's how being in a girl group differs from being in a guy group, "It's just like being in a boy group. We write, practice, load-in, play shows, and have fun... the only difference is that we're in heals the whole time."
