Jamila B "Gamers Love" - single review

Posted on October 7th 2009 by Owen Thomas

Who: Jamila B
What: Single Review

Jamila began singing at the early age of 11, going into talent shows and competitions, and began recording when she was 17. Her influences come from R&B, Hip-hop, reggae, funk and she has a self described style as 90's RnB with a modern twist.

Her most recent single called "Gamers Love" and is an excellent display of her vocal abilities. Her voice is soothing, yet sultry with a vocal melody that catches your ear fairly quickly. Although the lyrics seem a bit strange, with all the video game metaphors and references, they're very fitting when placed against this instrumental produced by Syck Wun. The instrumental is interesting borrowing samples from an old NES game Bionic Commando.

"I didn't take me long to write, maybe a day or so. I sung it to him and he loved it, so we went to record it in Toronto with Slakah the Beatchild."

There's a full music video to come in October. You can check it out on her website.
